Acoustic Guitars
An acoustic guitar is a type of musical instrument. Acoustic
guitars usually have six strings, though they can also come in 12 string varieties as well.
An acoustic guitar is usually made of wood, and has a hollow body...as
opposed to an electric guitar, which is made out of wood but usually has a solid body.
Some electric guitars do have hollow bodies, but the difference
between an acoustic and an electric is the fact that acoustic guitars rely on the natural resonance of the wood to
create the sound.
Electric guitars, however, rely on their pickups to “pick up” the
vibration of the strings. Some guitars can be played acoustically or electrically; these are known as acoustic
electric guitars.
A lot of acoustic guitars are also outfitted with pickups so that the
guitar can be plugged in for amplification. Pickups come in a wide variety of styles and types. In fact, some
people actually install microphones into their guitars to help pick up the sound!
When buying an acoustic guitar, including left hand acoustic guitars, there are a
few things that you should look for. First of all, when you hold the guitar, does it feel comfortable? Does the
body of the guitar fit comfortably against you? If it does not, then you should find a guitar that does.
You should also like how the guitar plays. In other words, when
you press down the strings to play a chord, does it feel good or uncomfortable? Usually, higher end guitars will
have much better action, but they will also cost a lot more to buy.
Acoustic guitars also come in a variety of different colors. Some
of them are actually painted, while others are just stained, allowing the wood grain to show through. A lot of
guitars are even “natural”, which means that there is no extra color in the wood. The wood is just sealed to make
it last longer.
